I'd spend practice time on hearing intervals. Beato says relative pitch includes recognizing notes played together as well as one after another. Following the movement of a melody or a chord progression sounds useful to me. Being able to name an isolated note would be impressive, but I'd use the relationships between notes more.

I'd keep the exercises short enough to repeat and change the starting note. Otherwise I might end up recognizing one familiar example. Beato's distinction between hearing notes together and separately gives me two things to test.

Recognizing an interval in an exercise and picking it out in a recording seem like different tests. I'd want examples with other instruments playing before judging how much the practice carried over.

He treats theory as part of the ear training. Naming what you're hearing gives you a way to describe it afterward. I'd want exercises that connect the sound to the term.
