Kaplan's point about hyperbole makes me distrust the ranking of game feedback. A post can collect approval without explaining what happened in the game. I'd want the map and sequence of play before treating a loud complaint as evidence for a particular design change. Its popularity tells me people recognize the frustration.

Players can describe a real frustration without knowing its cause. I'd still take that seriously. Asking them to propose the right fix before their complaint counts would throw away useful feedback.

The ranking could help identify where to investigate, though. Ten detailed reports about a rare problem and a vague complaint thousands recognize give developers different information. I'd want both visible.

Kaplan describes extreme reactions as self-reinforcing. That makes me curious about what happens to moderate reports on the same issue. I'd compare the examples inside the threads before deciding how broad the complaint is.
