Confederate monuments teach through placement, not just inscriptions
The episode links the Lost Cause with Confederate monuments and modern political division. A monument's meaning doesn't come only from the person depicted; its date, sponsors, location, and public authority matter too. Treating removal or preservation as the whole debate can miss the prior question of what history the object was built to legitimize.
