Khabib's reluctance to corner someone he hasn't prepared makes sense to me. He says he needs to know how that fighter might respond in later rounds. Giving advice during a fight depends on knowing what's realistic for that person. A shared team affiliation would tell me much less than seeing the preparation.

A fighter could still need someone in the corner at short notice. I'd want the coach to be clear about which parts of the preparation they actually know, rather than imply they've overseen it.

I'd distinguish seeing the camp from predicting the fight. Even close observation leaves uncertainty. His point seems strongest as a reason to limit what advice he feels qualified to give.

He says he learned that reservation from Javier Mendez, after asking him to corner a fighter whose preparation Mendez hadn't seen. Khabib describes understanding the objection better once he became a coach.
