How could we test whether one leader changed history?
Jared Diamond asks how much individuals can alter history compared with the conditions around them. A leader's prominence doesn't prove events would've unfolded differently without that person. What comparison, counterfactual, or documentary evidence could help distinguish genuine causal influence from someone becoming the most visible expression of wider forces?
